WASHINGTON (May 6, 2025)—Today Humane World Action Fund, formerly called Humane Society Legislative Fund, announced its endorsement of Adelita Grijalva in the special election for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
“Adelita Grijalva understands that the most vulnerable among us deserve protection,” said Sara Amundson, president of Humane World Action Fund. “Animals need allies like Grijalva in Congress who will protect wildlife and companion animals alike. We urge Arizonans in the 7th District to make the humane choice and elect Adelita Grijalva to Congress.”
Grijalva has pledged to support important federal animal welfare issues, including:
- Supporting legislation like the Better Collaboration, Accountability and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) for Animals Act (H.R. 3112) to give the U.S. Department of Justice the tools it needs to strengthen enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and help deter perpetual violators.
- Supporting the Puppy Protection Act (H.R. 2253) to address serious gaps in welfare standards for tens of thousands of breeding dogs and puppies at large-scale breeding operations licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
- Supporting the Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 1657) to phase out testing of cosmetics on live animals and sales of animal-tested cosmetics in the U.S.
- Supporting the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661) to prohibit the reopening of horse slaughter plants in the U.S. and the export of American horses to slaughter for human consumption.
- Supporting the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act (H.R. 1684) to crack down on “soring,” in which trainers deliberately inflict severe pain on the hooves and legs of Tennessee walking horses.
Arizona’s 7th Congressional District was previously represented by the late Rep. Raúl Grijalva. He was a steadfast champion for animals and a founding member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus. Throughout his distinguished career, he consistently stood up for wolves, bears and other vulnerable wildlife, as well as the companion animals we welcome in our homes.
