New streaming ad in Minnesota calls out threat of corporate factory farms to family farmers, state authority and farm animal welfare
WASHINGTON (August 3, 2026)—Humane World Action Fund, formerly called Humane Society Legislative Fund, launched today an advertising campaign urging Congress to reject the controversial Save Our Bacon Act and keep this poison pill provision out of the final Farm Bill.
The campaign begins with a $250,000 streaming advertising buy in Minnesota, where voters are encouraged to tell Congress not to give a handout to corporate factory farms where mother pigs are kept in cages so small they cannot even turn around.
“Family farmers in my home state face real pressures, from corporate consolidation to rising costs for fertilizer and unpredictable weather, but blaming basic animal welfare standards for rising costs is convenient scapegoating. Most Americans are calling for basic standards of care for farm animals, so the era of extreme confinement is on its way out the barn door,” said Sara Amundson, president of Humane World Action Fund. “The Senate has an opportunity to keep the Farm Bill focused on helping farmers navigate the real challenges facing agriculture, not providing a special favor to a handful of corporate pork interests that have spent years trying to overturn laws they couldn’t defeat at the ballot box or in the courts.”
Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) indicated his committee may markup its version of the Farm Bill this week, just days before the chamber is scheduled to take a summer recess.
This latest campaign builds on Humane World Action Fund’s successful advocacy to protect state laws, including a multi-state ad buy during the last Farm Bill debate in 2023 and 2024. Then, Congress declined to advance legislation with similar language targeting state farm animal protection laws, leaving California’s Proposition 12, Massachusetts’s Question 3 and other state farm animal laws intact. Humane World Action Fund is launching this new campaign to build on that momentum and ensure the dangerous Save Our Bacon Act meets the same fate.
