WASHINGTON (October 19, 2026)—Humane World Action Fund, formerly called Humane Society Legislation Fund, announced its endorsement of Roy Cooper, who is running for the United States Senate in North Carolina.
As the nation’s leading political animal advocacy organization, Humane World Action Fund based on their demonstrated commitment to animal protection, evaluating each candidate only on their record and positions on animal welfare issues.
“Roy Cooper has consistently supported key animal protection policies in each office he’s served in for North Carolinians, such as creating tools to stop cruelty, fighting to save endangered species and opening his home to rescued dogs and cats.” said Sara Amundson, president of Humane World Action Fund. “Animals deserve strong allies in Congress. We urge voters in North Carolina to elect Roy Cooper to the U.S. Senate.”
Roy Cooper’s public service career in North Carolina’s reflects a long history of standing against animal cruelty and advancing protections for all animals. As attorney general, Cooper established North Carolina’s animal cruelty hotline, an accessible tool for reporting animal abuse via phone, email or mail about individuals, pet shops, kennels and animal shelters.
As governor, he staunchly advocated for the state’s wildlife, including urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to recommit to efforts to save critically endangered red wolves from extinction. He also supported “safe passage” projects to safeguard black bears, elk, deer and more from transportation collisions and took executive action to set new goals to protect and restore North Carolina’s wetlands and other habitats.
He also vetoed a bill that would have limited North Carolinians’ right to sue over the impacts of CAFOs from factory farms on their quality of air and water. Additionally, Cooper leveraged the executive office to spotlight pet adoption by fostering kittens from a Raleigh-based rescue in the official governor’s residence, publicizing his own adopted rescue cats and dogs and celebrating Shelter Pets Day throughout the state.
